Spooky Month Has Arrived

Tomorrow starts bow season and October. I will not be bow hunting but I will be concentrating on some blood-curdling, spooky and of course true tales of horror from the famous Christmas Place. You can vote on which ones you want to read by leaving a comment.
1. The Messenger- soon after we purchased the Christmas Place strange and ominous notes started to appear on our camp door.
2. The Military Complex- a secret lab next to our property abandoned after the cold war, but what went on and is anything still hiding there?
3. The Old Covered Bridge- we were enjoying fishing off of it until nightfall caught us there.
4. The Confederate Grave- is the ghost real and what does he want?
5. The Spectral Wolf- I have seen it and feel that I escaped with my life.
Vote for one or two of these and I will have them up soon.

Probation for Scrooge?

My, evil brother, no the one from the coast, (Paul Howell) is facing probation from the famous Christmas Place. The rules are qute clear, pay your dues by October 1 or you are banned from hunting for the year. Today is the 28th and he still has not paid his dues. As the rich get richer and the poor get poorer my brother keeps a simple philosophy. He always says "I'm not predjudice, I hate all poor people" as he counts his money. This Lawyer is the only person that has not paid up. I am sure he has a lawsuit up his sleeve, but he made the rules.
We are all counting the days.
If he wasn't Dad's favorite I would think he would be sitting at home opening day, but I am sure an exception will be made for the Golden Child. We will see.

Fall Is Here

Yesterday afternoon, fall gently arrived as the air grew colder during the day and last night we slept with all the windows open as the cool breeze was wonderful and comfortable. My crazy dog enjoyed the change too. she spent half the night going in and out, in and out and barking at imaginary ninjas surrounding the house. I even wore a light jacket to work this morning. Burney called and said he was ready for bow season this coming weekend and he had a big mule staked out on Mark's stand.
Too bad for the old Mailrider!
Every one of my blogging friends is writing about their preparations and some up north are already hunting. Go check on the Ecorover, hell, he bagged a moose! Those damn things never come past my stand.
See you in the woods!

Bow Season Cometh

The archery season is just around the corner and there is still a lot we need to do before we are ready to get after those deer. Right now we could really use a rain to get our fields up and going. This time of year it is hard to get help from Burney and Paul. While we are working they will be hunting as usual. Burney almost always drags in a damn 10-point to get everyone fired up but last year it was a 250 lb. hog. Paul just wings arrows around and annoys everyone.
Getting the time to bowhunt is almost impossible nowadays even though we did it religiously for years and years. This having to work for a living gets in the way of a lot of things. I am going to do my best to get a couple of super stands ready for Spencer and myself and relax until opening day of gun season. Good luck to everyone.

Christmas Place Torture

We have been working hard to get ready for deer season. Planting, cutting wood, and in general getting everything ready has taken a lot of time. What are the deer doing? Their strategy right now is to torture my Dad and anyone else they can find. For example, Saturday evening Dad and Ms Dorothy sat on the back patio to enjoy the sunset and those damn deer put their evil plan into effect.
Looking up the hill they see a giant buck munching on a salt block in the wide open. Five minutes later a herd of does come out and wander around the backyard. Ten minutes later two big bucks mosey across the back yard in slow motion just to torture him. In 30 minutes they saw 20 deer including the big bucks. This torture must be stopped!

A Blaze Orange Winner

I received notification from my old friend, Jim Braaten at The Sportsmans Blog , that I was a winner in his facebook contest. I didn't even know I had entered! I eagerly opened the package he mailed and pulled out one of the finest quality hunting caps I have ever seen. If you fly over the Christmas Place this fall, you will have no trouble spotting me. Jim has been blogging a long time and I would appreciate everyone going over to his site to say hi and check into his quality merchandise.
This hat feels lucky, I can feel a ten-point in my future!

that's a goofy looking dude!

The Golden Grunt Call 1

Somewhere near the North Pole (Merritt, British Columbia) at the heart of an old abandoned mine, the mysterious gazillionaire Othmar Vohringer worked at the heat of a roaring forge. Fire and sparks flew as he beat the glowing metal into shape for his wondrous new invention.
Late into the night he labored in the secret mine with sweat running down his massive bronze chest and arms as he gripped the hammer to beat and shape the bars of pure gold into shape for the final firing
Carefully, the pure gold was poured into the form while his trusty apprentice Rex Howell kept the bellows pumping at just the right temperature.
Each piece was exquisitely hand crafted and Othmar had spent the day hammering the gold into a fine sheet to make the pieces which he now placed together for the final firing. The blaze grew and a bright orange glow filled the hidden cavern as Othmar watched. At just the right moment the huge tongs reached into the fire and pulled out the mold. Quickly it was doused into a bucket of water and Othmar placed the mold on the table, pried it apart and stared at his beautiful work through the steam and smoke.
“Eureka” and “Sacre Bleu’” he shouted as he danced and chuckled to himself.
The Golden Grunt Call lay in his hands shining in the firelight. The most wondrous grunt call ever made and he imagined the beautiful and melodious sound it would make to lure in the biggest and mightiest of whitetail bucks. He slowly raised it to his lips and blew.
Squawwwk, Quack, Quack, MOOOO!
He stared, his face turned red, he threw it to the floor in a rage, he even threw in some bad words as he jumped up and down on the worthless deer call.
The fire had been too hot!
Damn that apprentice!
Back to the drawing board.

Deer Days Of Summer

The nights are getting cooler but the days are still hot here in Mississippi. Hot, still days with no air and the grass is turning brown from lack of rain. It is almost fall. They are picking cotton now on the Christmas Place and it won't be long until October, bow-season and Halloween. should have two or three good stories for this years Ghost Stories. This is the time of year when you are continually waiting for it all to start. I will start checking in on all my blog friends to see what's going on in their neck of the woods.

Organizing A Screw-Up

We will be getting in to camp tonight for our big planting weekend and there are a lot of things to talk over and get organized for Saturday. We all have different ideas but I am pretty sure how it will shake out.
1. Trent take tractor somewhere to plow while we get seed and fertilizer on trucks.
2. make sure Paul doesn't slip off to go scouting while we work.
3. go to fields with small tractor, have help loading seed.
4. make sure Paul doesn't disappear.
5. at each field, repair stands, clear shooting lanes.
6. keep one eye on Paul
7. cut out roads leading in and out of each field.
8. don't let Paul take off on 4-wheeler
9. keep water and cold drinks coming from someone while logs and sticks are picked up out of fields
10. not Paul

Busy Weekend On Tap

It's planting time and a whole lot is planned for this weekend. The fertilizer and seed has been ordered and everyone is supposed to show up to help. We are going to start the tractor Friday across the Beaverdam and have that ready to plant for Saturday. The tractor will move to the bottom to disk while we do that. We also have to check each stand while we are working, have to get the pontoon boat off the lake, and cut firewood too. 7 sacks wheat, 24 sacks fertilizer, 4 sacks rye grass and some damn turnips for Dad. This is for hand seeding. We have ordered big buggys of a mix for the flatlands.

Dove opener was poor like the rest of the weekend but hey it was Michaels birthday!

That Was Quick

Wow! Now that football season is over, I guess I can concentrate on something important, like deer hunting. See you in the woods!

Dove Season Arrives

Dove season starts bright and early tomorrow moprning so get your shotgun out and clean the dirt-dobbers out of the barrel tonight.
We have sunflowers planted below the leevee and should have a good hunt if the damn hogs haven't destroyed the whole field.
Dad and Guy Dale are already down there making sure everything is ready. Paul and Trent are headed that way tonight. I will be staying here and getting ready for the game. Will give you a play-by-play of the game and the hunt later.

Gasping for Football

I made it! Today is Thursday and college football starts tonight. Don't call and don't text because I will be watching feetball tonight.
The Ole Miss rebels start their season saturday and I will be in the Grove with 50,000 of my friends. For the best tailgating experience and the most fun you can have come visit us for one of the games this year. Here is a preview of what it's like.

Don't Text On Me

The Mailrider is driving his big rig up in Connecticut right now and has nothing better to do (since he works for the Post Office) than text me every five minutes. "How're the Rebels? Where you going to hunt? Are the fields ready? When yo going to camp? Where you going to hunt?
Hey! I'm working over here, trying to earn a living.
I'm not telling him jack-squat. Every time I do, he begs to hunt there and then shoots a big ten-point.
I text back an old line from the 70's "SUFFER"

The Deathly Hollows

It is now a little over 60 days until that stupid deer, Thunderhoof, meets his demise in the Deathly Hollows at the rear of the famous Christmas Place. This is the year that I blast him to smithereens! My trap is almost ready and he will not escape this time. That Harry Potter got nothing on me.

Amidst the Confusion

Thank God we got finished with the first round of breaking up the fields. Dad and I went down to camp for the weekend to finish up and I learned once again that I had no idea what I was doing. I mean, I have only been doing it for 30 years.
I would make a round on the tractor and Dad would pull out in the field and scream at me what I was doing wrong. He would point and shout over the tractor noise and I would scream and shout back. Neither of us could hear the other. Next round he would be back shouting at me again that I was doing it all wrong.
This continued all day Saturday until I thought I would go crazy. I would probably have finished 2 or three hours earlier if I did not have to continually stop to listen to him rant at me about how to do it correctly.
Thank God we finished. I will gladly let one of my evil brothers take over this task.

Trigger's Ride

Dad got a truck tag at the Watermelon Carnival which he proudly put on the front of his truck. I can't believe someone would baby a dog like that. Camo is really upset about it.
Heading to camp this afternoon to tie a hog to a tree for Marian.

All Quiet On The Southern Front

It is very quiet today. Cooler weather has moved in and it is absolutely beautiful here. finally. Gearing up to go back to camp this weekend and see if we can get all the fields finished in the bottomland.
Time to start thinking about football and deer hunting.

Muddy Revenge

Trent has been hunting hogs very hard for the last couple of weeks with no luck. He gave it a last shot after we finished working on sunday afternoon. He had been hearing the hogs across the road on the Refuge where we can't hunt, but there is a very narrow piece of land on that side of the road that we own. He eased up the old road to see what he could find.
Trent spotted a large hog wallow and figured that in the heat, maybe they would come to it. He looked carefully around at the surrounding woods then realized that the water was moving in the big mud hole. The big hog was lying in the water!
Trent wasted no time as the hog stood up. BLAM! BLAM!
He got Paul Jones to help him get it out. The porker was covered in mud but weighed almost 300 pounds. A massive varmint! Congratulations Trent.

The Outdoor Report

I got a note from Steve Remington about his new site called Camo Underground. This is set up to be the Drudge Report for outdoorsmen. He wants me to send him some fascinating reports and breaking news from our area.
I am thinking about sending him a picture of Camo, which is the smartest and most beautiful dog in the world,
and stories from her great hunting show on television (Hunting With Camo).
Who wouldn't want to read about her?
I could send him the annual Interview With Thunderhoof but that no-good rotten deer would probably just refuse to help.
Hey! I will make up some wanted posters for both of my evil Brothers. That would be fun.

A Hard Day's Work

Here is a pic of the guys relaxing after a hard days work. This weekend we were able to get 20 fields bush0hogged and broken for the first time. All of these fields are up in the bluffs and we are way ahead of schedule. Cutting the fields in the summer helped us because the grass was not so thick when we went in to cut them. Hopefully next week we can get the rest of them done.

Are Your Ducks In A Row?

This week in Water Valley the Howell's are busy getting their ducks in a row. Trent is having a new paint job put on the office that changes it from one of the ugliest buildings to one of the nicest in town.
Dad is lining up the weekend at camp. The bulldozer will be coming to run out all the roads at camp and to work on any fields that need expanding. He also has to get the bulldozer into his duck hole for some ungodly reason that we still haven't figured out.
I am trying to get all my rentals settled for the winter, finish a stack of appraisal work, and keep the whole US economy going on my nickel.
Camo is sleeping and eating.
Now that we are into August the focus of everything is changing to getting the camp prepared for the coming deer season. We made it through the Watermelon Carnival and we survived the big wedding of John and Leslie.
From here on out we will be heading to camp almost every weekend until all the planting is done and all the stands are ready to go.
Meanwhile, my other evil brother (Paul) is doing nothing. He did not come to the hot wedding and I really don't expect him this weekend. I am sure he will be there opening day (as usual)

Friday, August 13, 2010

The Hot Wedding

This weekend is the hot wedding. John Stewart is getting married out at Sardis Lake at half past five on Saturday. Bring your swimsuit, goggles, flip-flops, and suntan oil. This is the perfect time of day for dying of heat stroke. Around five the asphalt is so hot you can cook an egg, there is not a breath of wind and no air is available to breathe. I imagine half of the old ladies will die and the other half pass out. I hope they have ambulances standing by. On the plus side, I think there will be plenty of cold beer.

Another Teenage Hellion

The Watermelon carnival was also the saetting for Erin's Birthday. She turned 13 this week and all she wanted was a new car, motorcycle, jet ski and a goat. We gave her makeup but am still looking for a goat.
Thirteen! OMG! All of you need to beware!
She is the one with the glasses pulled up.
My beautiful daughter is way too grown up for me.

Red Death

Everyone at camp has noticed Tent’s sudden overwhelming desire to hunt hogs lately. In fact, it has become almost an obsession to him. If you ask, he will tell you that he really enjoys it and it is a lot of fun. This is odd in several ways with the most obvious being that he is a die hard big buck hunter. In his life anything else has always been secondary.
Quail, doves, ducks, squirrels, turkey or anything else has not interested him in the slightest. The obsession with hogs has been very strange and until this past Watermelon Carnival I never understood it.
We had made it through the 100 degree heat of the day, toured the Carnival a dozen times, met all our old friends, hit the street dance and watched the fireworks display. We had had enough and we moved to the porch of my office and listened to the music as the hour got late. We sipped our drinks and talked. Denise and I, Paul and Wanda, Bobby Suratt, Shelley and Trent, Holly and Dennis, Bob and Marian and numerous others that came and went after a cold beer or drink. the night wore on and one by one all of our friends headed for the house until just Trent and I were left alone on the porch to sip our drinks. Bobby Suratt was fast asleep in a lawn chair and his gentle snores were the only distraction after the band had left and the lights in the park slowly went out for the night.
We sat there enjoying the last few minutes before we had to go and out of the blue Trent said “I know you’ve been wondering why I am hog hunting so much” I answered that I was and he said “I’m going to tell you something no one else knows” I took a drink and waited for him to continue. He said “You still have that little light on your keychain?” I did and he stood, dropped his pants and sat back down. “Get it and look at my leg” he said. I got it out and turned the penlight on and looked.
There was a hole in his thigh almost as big around as my thumb. The edges looked puckered but the skin looked stretched not ripped. He pulled his pants up and I asked “What happened”
“I came down from the Arrowhead field at dark and walked to the bottom. I was hoping to catch a hog out in the open while I could still see. As I reached the edge of the fields, I was hit from behind and lifted off my feet. I had dropped my rifle and saw that I was laid back across the biggest hog I had ever seen. It shook it’s head sideways and I went rolling off into the brush and landed in the middle of a dead tree.” I didn’t say a word, just waited. Trent said “The hog didn’t waste any time and came after me. I had rolled into the dead tree and scooted my body behind the trunk of what was left of the 12 inch tree and the hog came down right against the tree and my chest. It gored the tree while it’s eyes stared right in my face from 6 inches away. I could see the hate in its eyes. I couldn’t breath and fought to keep it from getting me and finally I quit moving and pretended to be dead. A minute later it stopped, stared at me a minute and trotted off into the woods. I found this hole in my thigh later but it has never hurt even though it looks awful.”
“That hog was solid red and would easily weigh 600 pounds. Its tusks were 5 or 6 inches long. I’m going to kill that SOB no matter what it takes.”

Gearing Up for the Carnival

today the weather has turned milder and there is great excitement around the park as all the vendors set up. the rides, the food court and all the vendor tents are going up all over. Everything is getting ready to start, plus the big street dance is tonight. Bob and Marian called and they are on the way. Even my evil brother is coming up. No, Paul, the other evil brother.

Bacon For The Lady

Yesterday my evil brother, no, Trent the other evil brother, took off from work in the middle of the day to take this beautiful young lady on a hog hunt at the Christmas Place. Her name is Nelly McMann and she is a very good shot.
they spotted this big sow right at dark and she made a long shot to drop the porker in it's tracks. Congratulations to a beautiful girl on a very successful hunt!

Hog Slayers

Spencer and Burney have been involved with an elaborate trap to get those damn hogs. You dig a post hole in the ground as deep as you can, fill it with corn, then pour a grape or soda drink over it and let it ferment. The hogs are supposed to go crazy for it. We will see. And the pistols?, I don't know what is up with that.

Denise's Birthday

Most birthdays around here are low key affairs. Not with Denise. It's party time!
She is zany, quirky and a little out of step, and that's why we love her.
Happy Birthday!

The Freezer Rebellion

Yes, I went to my little house and dug out the freezer that I had in there and donated it to the camp. Did I get any appreciation? NO. All I heard was "Ewww" it's dirty. Finally got Mark to help load it on the trailer. He said "Ewww, that damn thing will never work."
Got it to camp. "Eww, it's too dirty to help unload." Made a phone call and got Bob and Marian to come and help clean it up since no one else would help me. They joined right in and we got it clean, plugged in, and running like a top.
I promised my Vicksburg friends a hog hunt in the near future.
And all that "Eewwing"..... when the freezer is full of deer and wild hog, you can Ewww all the way home empty-handed.

A Playmate For Camo

Thank Goodness Spencer has arrived to spend some time up here with me. Camo needs someone to play with. Her teeth are getting a little dull and a nice human leg bone to chew on will cheer her up. She knows I don't mind the blood or screaming.
I will probably have to lock them both in my dark, dingy basement for a few days.
On the other hand she really needs a bath and since she killed the last three people that tried to give her a bath, I think this would be a perfect job for Spencer.
Will have an ambulance standing by in case he survives.

To-Do List

Now that hump day is over (4th of July) it is time to start a list of things that I need to finish up before deer season starts. Y'all can chip in anywhere and help.
1. inspect all stands for rotten boards.
2. replace all gun rails and repair camo in each stand.
3. shoot hogs
4. get Bob's booth for Carnival
5. put tripod stand at 10-point field
6. increase size of T-field with bulldozer
7. pet dog
8. take freezer to camp
9. cut firewood
10. shoot hogs
11. talk to Thunderhoof (this is his last year)
12. late August disk and plant fields
13. sight in rifles
14. go scouting for new spot to shoot Thunderhoof
15. pet dog
16. shoot hogs
That should be enough but will add to it as we go along.

We Have Apples

Our little apple tree in the yard is covered with apples just getting ripe. Some have fallen off and others are getting that tint of red that shows they are ready to pick. Here is Erin showing our first one. The only problem we have is with those hateful rabbits, vicious deer and those conniving masked bandit raccoons. They are about to drive Camo crazy. She is on guard 24/7 but those hateful things are stealing our apples right and left. She chases them but they are too sneaky. Hope we can salvage a few.

An Emanating Odor

Burney just called from camp and said that when he got there last night and opened the door a horrible smell rolled out to meet him. He went in to the laundry room and cracked open the freezer. Everything was melted and smelled horrible. A big pool of water and god knows what else was all over the floor. Looks like we have lost all our frozen deer and hog meat.
I think I have a freezer at my house we can use to replace it but that freezer was absoulutely full. Damn!

Bob Is Good To Go

Once again we will be live-blogging the Watermelon carnival this year and as a special treat, the famous blogger known as Two-Dogs Tall or Bob Phillips will be operating a booth for the event. As everyone in the South knows he is married to the world famous blogger Marian Phillips.
Bob will be selling his internationally acclaimed Copper Trees at the festival this year so check with him early and often to get one of these one-of-a-kind masterpieces of art. See you at the Carnival.

A Working Weekend

This weekend was a long hard working weekend for me but not for Dad. He went to camp with Trent and enjoyed himself. Trent managed to kill a hog too.
So it was hot and boring but I also got a booth set up for Bob and Marian for the Watermelon carnival.
I also got Erin off to Camp Hopewell up near Oxford for summer camp.
I sure hope they caught that ax murderer who was running around up there last year.

Golf With Bebo

Every fourth of July we have a family golf shootout. Bebo is the best golfer in the group and it is always fun to take his money whenever we get the chance. He managed to lose 2 out of 3 matches this time.
Hope we can get Dad back to playing soon and I've got to start practicing because I can assure you that Bebo wants his money back.

A Good Holiday

Paul, Wanda and their kids came up for the 4th. We playd golf Saturday and then came in for a big party that Denise put on. It was relaxed, fun and everyone had a great time. We had ribs, burgers and hotdogs along wih all the beer and cokes you could drink. No one left hungry.
Sunday we played golf again and then went to my aunt's house for another feast late that afternoon. We made the fireworks display at Ole Miss and then headed home.
I need a vacation from my holiday.

A Short Day At The Office

I am going to try and get out of here at lunch. My evil brother is coming this weekend. No the other evil brother.
We are having all of the family over for a cookout and there is a lot to be done. Like hide all the silver.
Should be a relaxed fun-filled weekend and hope y'all have a happy 4th of July.

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Weekend At Denise's

This weekend Denise has graciously invited all the family to our house for a cookout on July 3rd at 6:30. All the golfers should be in and cleaned up by that time. The winners will be happy and tipsy, the losers will be sad, broke and drunk. Put me in that category.
Dad will be there if he gets parolled.
July 4th they are once again giving the big fire works show at Ole Miss, you do not want to miss it. It starts around dark.
Hope everyone is doing great as we get over the hump and head toward fall and hunting season.

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

The Howell Shootout

The annual Howell Shootout has been set for Saturday, July 3rd at 1:00PM and will be at the Yalobusha Country Club. If you want to play, bring your sticks and some quarters for Bebo and come on. We will all be there. Trent, Paul, Bebo, Larry the Beard, Wobbles Kyric and me. It should be a lot of fun taking money from the coast expert. Oh yeah, Dad is not going to play.
1. He is injured.
2. He wants a stroke a hole and that ain't gonna happen.
See you there!

Hopalong Returns

Dad has returned to Water Valley from his hospital stay in Jackson. He is pretending like he is all stove up but I think he is playing his little old wound for all it's worth. I've seen worse. If you are going to visit him, he is in Room 122 at the Yalobusha Co. Hospital. I am sure all the older women in town will be baking pies and cooking chicken to bring him, so go early. He is doing well and chomping at the bit to get out of there.

It's Just Hot

The whole south is under a major heat wave in the 100's. Camo is about to have a heart attack. Her tongue is hanging out to the ground.
We need to go to Jackson to see Dad but I am not sure how I am going to get Camo up on the 5th floor of the hospital. I found out those people don't appreciate dogs like I do. Maybe I can put her in one of those white doctor garbs with a stethescope around her neck and no one will notice.

The Replacement Hunter

"Old hunters never die,
they just disappear into the woods"

Forget that, dad is in Jackson recovering after successful knee surgery. His knees are just worn out and he had his repaired, replaced and completely redone. I told him that he didn't look any taller.
Dad is not one to sit still, so I give the doctors in Jackson two days before he drives them crazy. He also doesn't much care for a gown that leaves your booty hanging out.
His number at the hospital is 601-968-5049. He can't hear very well, so speak up and tell him to quit lying around on his duff and get back to work.
If you are going through Jackson and see a crazy man with a limp running north on I-55 wearing a gown with his booty flashing in the breeze; stop and pick him up. It will be Dad escaping from the hospital.

Berry Picking Time

I have never seen so many black berrys in all my borned days! they are everywhere and just on the virge of being ripe. In most places you can pick them all afternoon without getting off your 4-wheeler. Next week through the 4th should be perfect.

A Semi-Work Camp

A work camp was called for this past weekend. Only dad, Trent Paul and myself showed up. Pauls' son Michael and his friend Thomas came too. We cleared roads and cut fields all day Saturday and part of Sunday and got a lot done.
The best part of the weekend was late Friday afternoon when Trent and I decided to go hog hunting the Phillip way. We got in Dad's buggy and drove to the lake. Trent was the shooter and I was the chauffeur. We do not own a hog limousine like Phillip.
Lo and behold the hogs were below the leevee and Trent whacked a nice one from the passenger seat. Wow, that kind of hog hunting sure is easy!

The Art Of The Deal

Today I am going to make an offer on a house. It is a foreclosure here in Water Valley and a very good deal. I am dealing with other Realtors which always turns out bad but I am going to try. I will take Camo with me and make sure she puts on her most convincing killer dog act in case of problems.

A Flat Kind of Day

Let me make sure you understand. I hate automobiles. There i said it. they eat your money and they let you down when you least expect it. Like yesterday.
I am on my way to the big city of Cascilla (pop. 40) and am tooling down Hwy 51 listening to the oldies when I hear a helicopter coming over me. Whump, Whump, Whump.
I look out the window to see it and my truck starts rocking. Holy Crap it's a flat!
Not a flat a blowout!. I pull over and dig my little jack out to change the tire. Did I mention it is 100 degrees in the shade. Finally get it changed.
My spare looks a little rough. In fact I can see where there is a crack in the rubber and it is dry rotted. Oh hell! hope I can do my job and get back to Water Valley. I get in truck covered with sweat and dirt and head on down the road. (very slowly). I get my job done and finally head back to town. Six miles from town I hear that damn helicopter again. Whump, Whump, Whump! Oh crap! I pull over and look but luckily my spare is still up. The outside rubber is gone, leaving the wire underneath. Holy Mackeral! I limp into town at 10 MPH and buy more tires.
That was my whole day.

Camo Cools Off

After Camo's heroics, she had to find a cool place to relax. The center of the tile floor suited her needs. she could cool off and wait for supper too.
