A Camp Holiday

Celebrate, MS> I got to the famous Christmas Place early and started cleaning up. Then I started cutting grass to get everything just right before Marion and Bob and GuyK and Penny got there.
They all pulled in and things took off from there. Visiting and introductions were done, then Guy and myself and Erin and Marian headed out.
I took them up to the lake, then we headed up to Squirrel Road to see the Indian Mounds. The weather was perfect. We got back to camp later and sat around just enjoying talking and the beautiful weather. Things were going great till I wanted to go show him the Haunted Car in the woods.

Just as we got there, a huge clap of thunder and the heavens opened up. We all got soaked to the skin as we rushed back to camp! I knew GuyK was going to get us wet sooner or later.
That night Dad cooked steaks for all of us and they were great. Guy and Paul Jones set up or an early morning fishing trip and we all fell exhausted into our beds.
The next morning I took Ms. Penny up to the lake and we watched them fish.
They caught the heck out of brim, and crappie. When they got back and dressed them it was time to go for another trip around the property. We saw deer, a hog or two and a nice covey of quail that weekend. Guy got to inspect the corn.

Saturday afternoon I got to finish cutting the grass after I showed Guy around the infamous witchs' house across the road. I pointed out where the fantastic cellar was hidden beneath the house. He got a kick out of that.
Late that evening, Guy started cooking and prepared a fish fry with the Blue Cats he had caught in Oklahoma. We all ate like kings, then topped it off with ice cold watermelon. We lit the fire and moved over to sit and talk.

That night Marion, Guy and myself talked about blogs and the Outdoor Bloggers Summit. He told us about the blog-meets he had been to, and the wonderful people he had met. Walrilla, Erica, Grouchy Old Cripple, and the beautiful Tall Cool Drink of Water . He told how the late Acidman had helped so many people get started in blogging. We talked for hours and then Marian and Bob had to go. We all staggered off to bed soon after.
The next morning as Guy got ready to leave a light rain started, so I guess he took the rain home with him. We had a great time and I think he will be back to see us again soon. Marian has written about it in her Hunting Stories Blog and it really was Charming, Just Charming.

Great times with great people are just hard to beat! Looking forward to next time. I'll get around to posting a bunch of my shots tomorrow..after I get through putting off sweetthing's 'honey-do' list which will take an hour or two of thinking about reasons that I can't do it tomorrow..maybe Sunday sweetthing..

What an absolute pleasure to read of your stories and encounters, Rex. I always read your posts with a broad, satisfied smile. I can't help but wonder about some who might read and think that your wholesome enjoyments are 'boring'... and I then immediately feel sad for them. Sad that they don't understand and probably live their lives with a feeling of unfulfillment. I'm so glad that you, and the great folks that gravitate in your direction, will never have that problem.

Best to you and your family, kind sir!

That corn seems like it 8 feet high, in ND and South Dakota Corn is lucky to get 6 feet tall. Of course that corn was planted in May as well...

Goon, Rex is 6 feet tall, I think the corn may be taller than that. That Mississippi delta soil and some rain is about as good as it gets for corn. That field wasn't irrigated either.

Just think we hunt pheasants out of the corn in the Midwest, It definately doesn't get that tall. Most corn isn't three fee up here in ND right now. If a guy hunted in that corn you would be lucky to find your dog or get out of there alive.

I can't imagine how many deer are hiding in there?

Lastly if Rex is 6 feet tall then that is 10 - 12 feet tall.. Yikes...
