The Legend of Big Hook

THE LEGEND OF BIG HOOK
SUNG TO – BIG BAD JOHN
EV’RY MORNING AT THE HOLE YOU COULD SEE HIM ARRIVE
HE STOOD 5 FOOT 6 AND WEIGHED 285.
KIND OF BROAD AT THE ANTLERS AND NARROW AT THE HIPS
AND EVERYBODY KNEW YOU DIDN’T GIVE NO LIP TO BIG HOOK
BIG HOOK- BIG BAD HOOK!

NOBODY SEEMED TO KNOW WHERE HOOK CALLED HOME
HE JUST DRIFTED TO THE CROSSOVER AND STAYED ALL ALONE
HE DIDN’T GRUNT MUCH, KINDA QUIET AND SLY
AND IF HE SAW A HUNTER YOU KNEW HE WOULD DIE - BIG HOOK

SOME DEER SAY HE CAME FROM NEW ORLEANS
WHERE HE GOT IN A FIGHT OVER A CATTLE QUEEN
AND A CRASHING BLOW FROM A HUGE RIGHT HORN
SENT A LOUSIANA BULL TO THE PROMISED LAND- BIG HOOK
BIG HOOK- BIG BAD HOOK

THEN CAME THE DAY AT THE BOTTOM OF THAT HOLE
WHEN A RIFLE CRACKED AND DEER STARTED CRYIN’
DEER WERE PRAYING AND HEARTS BEAT FAST
AND EVERY BUCK THERE THOUGHT THEY’D BREATHED THEIR LAST, CEPT HOOK

THROUGH THE LEAD AND SMOKE OF THIS MAN-MADE HELL
WALKED A GIANT OF A BUCK THAT THE DEER KNEW WELL
SLAMMED A HUNTERS TREE TILL HE HEARD A MOAN
AND LIKE A GIANT OAK JUST STOOD THERE ALONE- BIG HOOK
BIG HOOK- BIG BAD HOOK

AND WITH ALL HIS STRENGTH GAVE A MIGHTY SHOVE,
AND A SIX POINT YELLED “THERE’S A LIGHT UP ABOVE!”
20 BUCKS SCRAMBLED FROM A WOULD- BE GRAVE
NOW, THERE’S ONLY ONE LEFT DOWN THERE TO SAVE, BIG HOOK

WITH SNORTS AND PAWING THEY STARTED BACK DOWN,
THEN CAME THE 30.06’ BLASTING WAY DOWN IN THE GROUND
AND THE SMOKE AND BULLETS BELCHED OUT OF THAT HOLE
EVERYBODY KNEW IT WAS THE END OF THE LINE FOR BIG HOOK. BIG HOOK- BIG BAD HOOK

NOW, THEY NEVER REOPENED THAT WORTHLESS PIT
THEY JUST THREW A CLIMBING STAND DOWN IN THE BOTTOM OF IT..
THESE FEW WORDS ARE WRITTEN ON THAT STAND
AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS HOLE LIES A BIG, BIG BUCK,
BIG HOOK
BIG HOOK, BIG BAD HOOK, BIG HOOK, BIG BAD HOOK
